After months of hard work and determination it was The World Irish Dancing Championships were finally here. The Championships took place at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast from Sunday 9th April until Friday 14th April. So on the 10th anniversary of our Liz winning the CLRG Senior Ladies World Championships, Team Ellis-Parr were headed to Belfast to take part in their first An Comhdhail World Championships.
The Academy had 8 world solo qualifiers (Freddy Beard - U10 Boys, Lola Burke-Sanchez - U10 Girls, Alex Rowsome - U14 Girls, Emily Downey - U16 Girls, Grace Barry - U17 Grils, Lucia Burke Snachez - U18 Ladies, Jessica Ellis & Michaela Green - Senior Ladies) and a Senior Ceili team representing Team Ellis-Parr and the London & Home Counties Branch. As expected the standard at the World Championships were beyond compare and the atmosphere and venue were truly amazing.
It wasn't all dancing and no play in Belfast though, as we were also able to get the dancers out to see the Titanic Museum and have a lovely meal evening meal together too.
We couldn't have been prouder of all our dancers taking part in the busy week of competitions. They showed such team spirit by supporting each other throughout the week and their dancing was lovely. Team Ellis-Parr were delighted to bring home 4 World Medals from this years Championships with Jessica and Lucia:
22nd U18 World Overall Championship
8th U18 World Heavy Jig Solo
3rd U18 World Slip Jig Solo (yes, 3rd!!!!)
8th Senior Ladies World Reel Solo
While not all of the results were as we hoped over the course of the week, each and every Ellis-Parr dancer was a pleasure to watch and the improvements in their dancing was shone through on stage. It is an honour for any dancer to be able to compete at the World Championships and be recognised as some of the best Irish dancers in the World. So regardless of the result, the achievements of our dancers in Belfast were truly amazing and we would like to CONGRATULATE each and every member of the Ellis-Parr Worlds Team 2017!
